Summary

Wow。。。 I gave this only four stars because it felt a bit unfinished。 I am grateful Christelle Dabos chose to publish a less finished product than sit on it for years and polish it。 It is a great story, and I really loved it。 In spite of all the problems, or what to call them。 I recommend this quartet to everyone who likes fantasy。 I thought it was new, original and very inspiring。

This book is a betrayal of an entire story and I felt like it derailed everything that happened in the first few books and it's VERY FRENCH。 BOO。I did like getting an explanation for what is going on, but I didn't get to the end and feel like it was a good explanation。 It just left me feeling icky and I wanted to rewrite it。 Series are so tricky。 I probably won't read this author again, because once you betray me, I never forget。 This book is a betrayal of an entire story and I felt like it derailed everything that happened in the first few books and it's VERY FRENCH。 BOO。I did like getting an explanation for what is going on, but I didn't get to the end and feel like it was a good explanation。 It just left me feeling icky and I wanted to rewrite it。 Series are so tricky。 I probably won't read this author again, because once you betray me, I never forget。 。。。more

This book is the definition of i’m not mad, just disappointed。。。 The first two books are some of my favorite books ever, and their plots were so engaging and unique。 This book was unnecessarily confusing and anticlimactic。 I think part of the reason this book isn’t as good is because Babel is boring and ordinary in comparison to the Pole and Anima。 Still I don’t regret reading this book as I feel satisfied finally finishing the series。 Overall just wished the author kept to the same style as her This book is the definition of i’m not mad, just disappointed。。。 The first two books are some of my favorite books ever, and their plots were so engaging and unique。 This book was unnecessarily confusing and anticlimactic。 I think part of the reason this book isn’t as good is because Babel is boring and ordinary in comparison to the Pole and Anima。 Still I don’t regret reading this book as I feel satisfied finally finishing the series。 Overall just wished the author kept to the same style as her first couple books。 。。。more

4。5 Wow。 This ending left so much for me to think about。 Honestly it was a bit confusing at times, but this book was such a good finish to the series。 Ophelia was not my favorite mc in the first book but I loved her character development in this! Highly suggest this read!I just read a few reviews and I agree that the twists and learning about them felt confusing and a bit rushed! I honestly fell in love the series and while it probably leans closer to 4 stars I cannot give it that。

What an ending。 I feel what I was expecting from books 1 and 2 to be very different from what I got here。 The story took such a different turn than what I wanted even。 But I can't deny it was a good story, fascinating and I kinda liked what it tried to do。 Ita not the stories fault it wasn't the story I wanted with the plot I wanted 。 What an ending。 I feel what I was expecting from books 1 and 2 to be very different from what I got here。 The story took such a different turn than what I wanted even。 But I can't deny it was a good story, fascinating and I kinda liked what it tried to do。 Ita not the stories fault it wasn't the story I wanted with the plot I wanted 。 。。。more

Not the best ending to the series in my opinion。 The first 2 books were pretty good, but the last two go downhill a bit。

Oof。 A tedious read。 Convoluted AF。 Things cleared up in the last few chapters but the frustration leading up to it seemed unnecessary。 HOWEVER… I loved the series as a whole and am very glad to have read it。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I’m mad。 I’m hurt。 I’m disappointed。 The way that this series was built was incredible。 The writing was terrific, the world was so detailed and interesting。 The characters were so diverse in personality and treated so intentionally it was beautiful。 Just to have everything ruined at the end。 I thought the last book was just something to get through as third books tend to be but oh no, I was so wrong。 It’s where the series fell apart。 This book was so confusing and convoluted for no reason at all I’m mad。 I’m hurt。 I’m disappointed。 The way that this series was built was incredible。 The writing was terrific, the world was so detailed and interesting。 The characters were so diverse in personality and treated so intentionally it was beautiful。 Just to have everything ruined at the end。 I thought the last book was just something to get through as third books tend to be but oh no, I was so wrong。 It’s where the series fell apart。 This book was so confusing and convoluted for no reason at all。 I didn’t have any frame of reference for any of what was going on and kept getting lost in the scenes。 The whole thing with Victoria didn’t make any sense at all, no powers were explained, why was she able to do what she did? What was the point?I loved the romance between Thorn and Ophelia in this series because the romance didn’t overshadow the plot and felt necessary and right in the story。 But to end it like that was infuriating。 It feels like a cope out and could’ve gone so many different ways。 I hated this book by the end。 Time moved so slow, they killed off the only characters anyone was rooting for with no purpose。 The ending was WAY to vague and read like the author had a personal vendetta against the main characters。 Thorns reasons for doing everything changed on a whim and by the end he just fell flat。 If you want to get your heart broken read the book。 But Jesus Christ I’m so angry。 。。。more

DNF at 33%Seriously, I tried。 I read the first three and thought “okay, the 4th book will bring everything together, right?”Nope。 It’s just more of the same。 Ophelia gets thrown into some ridiculous situation that she is ill-prepared for with little explanation of why she needs to do this, and everyone who should help just buggers off for the lulz。 And Thorn - the guys who supposedly is the mastermind of all this and who is Ophelia’s husband and SHOULD be working together with her - nowhere to b DNF at 33%Seriously, I tried。 I read the first three and thought “okay, the 4th book will bring everything together, right?”Nope。 It’s just more of the same。 Ophelia gets thrown into some ridiculous situation that she is ill-prepared for with little explanation of why she needs to do this, and everyone who should help just buggers off for the lulz。 And Thorn - the guys who supposedly is the mastermind of all this and who is Ophelia’s husband and SHOULD be working together with her - nowhere to be found。 They spend, like, five minutes in each other’s company at the beginning and he just leaves her to handle the situation he put her in。Knowing this was the last of the series, I skipped to the end, just to see if the payoff was going to be worth it。 And the answer is emphatically Hell No。 it’s just another cliffhanger。 And there is no indication that there’s meant to be a fifth book, though it is clear there should be at least one more。Yeah, I can’t slog through this anymore。 The only character I even remotely liked was Ophelia, but her decisions to stick with this nonsense is grating on me。 She should have stayed in her museum in the last book and forgot all about that dumbass jerk she was forced to marry。 。。。more

This was delightfully wrapped up。 I’ll admit up to about 70% I was very concerned by how confused I was and how little sense anything made。 But the author does a great job pulling things together。 In a lot of ways this series felt over my head。 It’s complicated and mystical。 But the explanations finally came together in a really satisfying way。 The romance is secondary without question, and yet is so perfect。

Way more metaphysical than I was expecting。 I agree with others that these books are two duologies rather than a true series。 I recommend reading them for Dabos's unique voice。 Way more metaphysical than I was expecting。 I agree with others that these books are two duologies rather than a true series。 I recommend reading them for Dabos's unique voice。 。。。more

Not sure why the ratings are so low。 While it certainly doesn’t match the vibe of the 1st and 2nd book that I adored, it was refreshing and kept me on the edge of my seat until the end of the book。 This book gave us more questions and plenty of answers that have been teased since book 1。 I found the answers rewarding and mind-bending。 You never really know who the “bad guy” is and the “reasons” for the bad things happen are believable and plausible。 Very realistic villains and motives considerin Not sure why the ratings are so low。 While it certainly doesn’t match the vibe of the 1st and 2nd book that I adored, it was refreshing and kept me on the edge of my seat until the end of the book。 This book gave us more questions and plenty of answers that have been teased since book 1。 I found the answers rewarding and mind-bending。 You never really know who the “bad guy” is and the “reasons” for the bad things happen are believable and plausible。 Very realistic villains and motives considering the setting。 I loved all the characters my only real complaint was that the last 2 books dropped some of my favorite characters for the most part - such as Fox and Archibald and more - for the characters of Babel some of which I also loved。 The ending maybe wasn’t super satisfactory *spoilers* from a happy standpoint, but we can remain hopeful as it’s still open-ended。 I’m just happy to have answers that made sense。 Too often motives and answers leave a foul taste in the final book。 A 4。5/5 for me。 This is a book I will think about for a long time afterwards just to wrap my head around it。 。。。more
